    On April 16 Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Mark Pannell, accompanied by Regional Educational Advising Coordinator (REAC) Rita Moriconi and Cultural Affairs Assistant (CAA) Leila Santos, traveled to Espírito Santo and presented English initiatives to the American Chamber of Commerce of Espírito Santo (part of Amcham Rio).

    Ambassador Susan Rice Visits Rio de Janeiro

    United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice visited Rio de Janeiro on April 13-16, 2013 for meetings with local officials, a visit to the UN Peacekeeping Center, a briefing on the city’s innovative community policing model, roundtable discussions with local LGBT and Afro-Brazilian community leaders, and visits to several sports and community development projects.

    U.S. Consul General John Creamer Opens Seminar on the Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Rio de Janeiro

    U.S. Consul General in Rio de Janeiro John Creamer delivered opening remarks at the seminar “Rio-Chicago Dialogue for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities.” The program was developed as a partnership between the U.S. Consulate General, the Commission for Persons with Disabilities of the Rio de Janeiro State Legislative Assembly (ALERJ), the State Government of Rio de Janeiro and the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, with additional support from WorldChicago, the Niteroi Association for Persons with Disabilities (Andef), the Commission for the Defense of Disabilities Rights of the Brazilian Bar Association, the Rio Janeiro Chapter (OAB-RJ), and the Center for Independent Life of Rio de Janeiro (CVI-Rio).

    Special Representative Reta Jo Lewis visits Rio de Janeiro, including the Niteroi Association for People with Disabilities (Andef)

    U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis led a delegation from the U.S. on a visit to Rio de Janeiro, that included Senior Advisor on Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy and Olympic Medalist Michelle Kwan. On March 13, the delegation started with at visit to the Niteroi Association for People with Disabilities (Andef).

    Director of International Relations of the U.S. National Academies Discusses “Sustainable Development, Innovation and the U.S.-Brazil Partnership in Science and Technology” in Rio de Janeiro

    Dr. John Boright, Executive Director of International Affairs of the U.S. National Academies (comprising science, engineering, and medicine), spoke in a roundtable discussion at the U.S. Consulate General, on the theme “Sustainable Development, Innovation and the U.S.-Brazil Partnership in Science and Technology.” Prof. Renato Machado Cotta from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro’s Coordination of Graduate Programs in Engineering (COPPE/UFRJ) was the second speaker, and represented the Brazilian Academy of Sciences as a Member of the Academy’s Executive Board.

  • Update on Passport Delivery in Brazil

    Transition to Local Courier Service Begins May 24, 2013
    The U.S. Mission to Brazil is pleased to announce a transition to a new local courier service for delivery of passports. On May 24, 2013, Computer Science Corporation (CSC), our visa service contractor, will transition to service with Correios, the state-owned postal service, for delivery of passports to visa applicants. New visas issued after May 23, 2013 will be delivered by Sedex, the courier service of Correios.

In Brazil, he looks forward to the opportunity to meet with President Rousseff and Vice President Temer and discuss ways to deepen our economic and commercial partnership.
